Buc-ee’s Is Coming to Amarillo & They Really Messed Up
Not even a month ago, I was writing about the rumors of Buc-ee's possibly coming to Amarillo. Now, say it ain't so, but it's really happening. Big congrats to Amarillo, but honestly, Buc-ee's really did mess up on this one.
On Tuesday, February 8th, 2022, the Amarillo City Council voted unanimously to approve an economic development agreement with the Buc-ee’s Travel Center chain during their regular meeting. This means they agreed with the chain to establish the construction of a 53,000-square foot travel center at the southeast corner of E I-40 and Airport Blvd. The new business is set to take up about 20 acres.
But...why? We all know Amarillo is a great city to drive through, but not stay in. Honestly, there should be a Buc-ee's there at some point, but Lubbock is the West Texas city for a business to be in.
I've heard some rumors that Bu-cee's could be coming to Clovis Highway, which would be really awesome and something everyone would love, but I think it's more on the rumor side than truth. Who knows?
But until then, at least Lubbock is getting that sick new concept of Allsup's and the cheese factory with Leprino Foods Company. Both those companies know what's up. Buc-ee's? Not so much right now.
But in all seriousness, I am excited for Amarillo and the fact that Buc-ee's will finally be in West Texas. For all us Lubbockites, it will be a shorter drive if we want some Buc-ee's Beaver Nuggets.
