A Lubbock man campaigning for Texas Railroad Commissioner was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon in Midland.

On February 8th, 69-year-old Marvin Leon "Sarge" Summers, of Lubbock, was in Midland attending an event at the George Bush Convention Center as well as another event at Midland College. 

Authorities say Summers was traveling on Highway 349 in Midland when he crashed into the rear of a semi-truck in the 7200 block of SH 349. The semi-truck was turning onto a private road when the crash happened.

Summers was killed at the scene, and the accident remains under investigation.

Summers was running in the Republican Primary for Texas Railroad Commissioner against Tom Slocum Jr., Sarah Stogner, Dawayne Tipton, and Incumbent Wayne Christian.
