Lubbock Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that injured a 2-year-old boy the night of Monday, September 20th.

Police were initially notified of the child being transported to University Medical Center a little bit after 10 p.m. He was said to have been suffering from moderate injuries on arrival.

At the hospital, police attempted talking with the child's mother, who apparently became agitated and refused to sit in the backseat of a patrol vehicle. KAMC News reports that eventually she calmed down talked with investigators.

She said that the child was playing at a friend's house and at some point, a black car came by and opened fire at the residence. The woman specified that she didn't see this, but was told that was what happened. This allegedly happened in the 2700 block of East 9th Street, but police say that stories given by different witnesses were conflicting in regards to the location.

The mother began to take the child to the ER, but her taillights weren't working properly, so the child's aunt met with them later and took them to UMC.

Police said in a press release that while it was initially indicated that there was a drive-by shooting, detectives are still working to determine if that's exactly what happened.
