It was a sad day for the kids and families that use Montelongo Pool when it was announced the pool would be closed for the summer due to repairs. Thankfully, city leaders are trying to do something to make the summer a little better for those who are used to going to Montelongo Pool.

On Wednesday, the City of Lubbock announced that beginning Thursday, June 30th, Citibus will be providing free transportation from the Maggie Trejo Supercenter to Maxey Park.

Bus service will begin at 12:45 p.m. and run every 30 minutes until the last bus leaves the Maxey Swimming Pool at 6:05 p.m. Service will be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, according to a press release and list of rules sent out by the City of Lubbock on Wednesday:

The service will be available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the first bus leaving the Maggie Trejo Supercenter at 12:45 p.m., and running every 30 minutes. The last bus will leave Maxey Swimming Pool at 6:05 p.m.

To utilize this service, riders:

  • Must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older if the rider is under 16 years of age
  • Must wear shoes
  • Must be dry to board the bus

I think this is a great idea by the City of Lubbock to provide this service to those who were hoping to get a season of swimming in. Hopefully, the Lubbock City Council will have all of the local pools looked at after the summer season is over and make any repairs that need to be made before next year.
