The destruction of Hotel Ava has begun.

There has been a hotel in that spot for as long as I can remember. I took a quick straw poll of my Facebook friends, and they determined that it’s been there since at least 1981 or 1982. It's also operated under many different names.

It was once the South Park Inn and The Clarion, but most people seem to remember it as a Holiday Inn. Many also wanted to mention good times at the pool or at the club inside when it was known as Olivers.

Anyone who's spent any time driving at all in Lubbock has seen that building off to the right about a million times. It’s always been a bit of an eye-catcher because it was next to Pyramid Plaza. It's going to be absolutely strange to see anything else in that spot.
