It's another "thirsty Thursday" when we take a look and listen to one of the great drinkin' songs in country music.

Merle Haggard, an icon in country music, came out of the Bakersfield California country music scene. He got his start in the mid 50's when he went and saw country legend Lefty Frizzell in concert. Frizzell let him go out on stage and sing a couple of songs. The great reception from the audience, persuaded Merle to start pursuing a music career.

After signing with Capital Records in the mid 60's, and his second single "Swingin' Doors" shot to number five in 1966.

It was 45 years that song came out, and it still works today. He's a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and in 2010 received the Kennedy Center Honor.

So "pop and top" and listen to some Haggard.
