Ask a native Texan what the official state bird of Texas is, and you'll more often than not get the correct answer of a mockingbird.  The same holds true for the state tree (pecan) or the official state nickname (Lone Star State).  But, until I logged onto a government site listing the numerous 'state symbols' of Texas, I never knew that we had a state snack or a state water lily.
