New Texas Tech Football Head Coach Matt Wells is in the midst of his first set of spring practices with Red Raider Football. On Saturday, the team scrimmaged in front of local fans at Jones AT&T Stadium.

“I liked the way the defense tackled,” Wells said after the scrimmage. “I thought we tackled well in space. I thought Ta’Zhawn Henry ran with good balance. He had some runs with good vision and good balance. SaRodorick (Thompson) made a nice run on the touchdown run. Those were the three things that stood out the most to me.”

According to the stats kept by the football team, Henry rushed for six times for 29 yards to lead the Red Raiders on the ground as he found the end zone in a situational period where the offense started deep on the defense’s side of the field. Thompson, meanwhile, added five carries of his own for 11 yards and a touchdown.

Texas Tech quarterbacks completed 20/38 passes for 227 yards as a team with Colt Garrett throwing 8/10 for 104 yards, while Alan Bowman was 5/12 passing for 37 yards. Jett Duffey also went 4/9 passing for 58 yards.

Next Friday, April 5, Texas Tech Football will scrimmage at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland.
