Texas State Artist Awards Inspire State Representative John Frullo
Lubbock State Representative John Frullo made an impactful statement on the eight Texas artists appointed by the State Legislature.
When George Strait claimed the title of Texas State Musician of the Year he was in the excellent company of 7 other artists who claimed titles as well as some very talented nominees. The list was so impressive that Frullo shared some powerful words in his press release.
“The great talents of the 2017-2018 State Artists, along with all of those who were nominated, help contribute to a distinctive cultural identity that makes Texas a great place to live, work and visit,” said State Representative John Frullo, Chairman of the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, & Tourism. “It is important that we celebrate the distinguished career achievements of these artists which have enhanced the lives of so many.”

The 2017 appointees include Texas Poet Laureate Jenny Browne of San Antonio, Texas State Musician George Strait of San Antonio, Texas State Two-Dimensional Artist Kermit Oliver of Waco, and Texas State Three-Dimensional Artist Beverly Penn of Austin. The 2018 appointees include Texas Poet Laureate Carol Coffee Reposa of San Antonio, Texas State Musician Marcia Ball of Austin, Texas State Two-Dimensional Artist Sedrick Huckaby of Benbrook, and Texas State Three-Dimensional Artist Beili Liu of Austin.
