The King of Country Music,George Strait has just been awarded a new honor and trophy here in Texas, the Title of Texas State Musician of the Year according to a press release.

"It's a great honor to be selected as Texas State Musician of 2017 . ..I'm a very proud Texan and love to sing the praises of our great state every chance I get." Strait is quoted as saying on his website. 

A Texas native, many of his songs have been about our state like Amarillo By Morning, All My Exes Live In Texas and Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.

The Texas State Legislature makes the official appointment May 18th in Austin, which coincidentally is also Strait's 65th birthday! Two milestones on one day, congratulations and 'Happy Birthday!' to the King of Country Music.

The title is held for two years and has previously been awarded to greats like Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett and Joe Ely.
