It only took a year and six days, but the Associated Press says a package sent last December by an Arkansas woman, Mary Beth Mauldin, to her mother in Florida has finally arrived. According to this news story, 16.5 billion letters, packages and cards are expected to be delivered between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. Considering that amount, you'd expect some to fall through the cracks. Tracking by the post office has been going on for Mauldin's package throughout the past year, and for some reason it got lost between Greenbrier, Arkansas and Winter Beach, Florida. Officials apologized but are unsure what caused the delay. It did finally get there and Mary Lou Shelton opened the late package to find a gift card and flannel nightgown. This Christmas I only mailed a couple of packages and so far have heard from one of the recipients that theirs arrived. However, there's still one of mine out there floating around and sure hope it doesn't take a year.
