A couple of years ago, Californian Michael Plant was caught at Los Angeles Airport Customs with 15 live lizards strapped to his chest. He was returning from Australia but did not have a permit for the creatures. And now, he has to pay...probably. All Australian reptiles are strictly regulated in the U.S. This particular variety is not cheap, with this group (two geckos, two monitor lizards and eleven smaller lizards) valued at $8,500.

Plank pleaded guilty to smuggling wildlife and will be sentenced Wednesday. He could face up to 20 years in prison and a quarter of a million dollar fine.
