Ronnie Dunn Releases Moody Cover of Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Showdown’ [Exclusive Premiere]
Ronnie Dunn's cover of "Showdown" is arguably more dramatic than the original, which is saying something. Listen to the recently inducted Country Music Hall of Famer cover an Electric Light Orchestra hit from 1973 during this exclusive Taste of Country premiere.
For his new Re-Dunn album, the singer keeps but modifies the string arrangement that makes "Showdown" unique. It's a deeper, more robust presentation, but melodically he stays true to Jeff Lynne's original composition. "Showdown" was an international ELO hit from the group's On the Third Day album from 1973.
This marks the fifth song the Brooks & Dunn frontman has advanced of 24 from his Re-Dunn project, available in January. The album is a collection of cover songs that influenced the singer and songwriter. George Strait, Tom Petty, the Eagles and Van Morrison are a few whose songs Dunn has recorded. He calls the solo album — his fourth, and first since 2016 — a "passion project."
