Scott Pelley, a San Antonio native, went to school at Coronado High School in Lubbock, studied journalism at Texas Tech University and early in his career worked for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and KAMC TV. And now, thirty years later, he's accomplished a major feat.

Since 2004 Scott has been a reporter on "60 Minutes". And in recent years, over half of the news awards have gone to honor work that Pelley has done. It was confirmed Tuesday that CBS Television has named him as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" when Katie Couric departs next month. The show will be renamed the "CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley" beginning June 6th.

Scott says, "I am delighted to join the terrific team at the 'CBS Evening News'. It's a privilege to work alongside the most gifted and talented journalists in the industry."
