Lyle Leong is the new head football coach and athletic director at Levelland High School.

If you remember the name Leong, it's probably because of what he did at Texas Tech as a receiver for the Red Raiders from 2007 to 2010. He finished his Red Raider career second in touchdown receptions all-time at the school, behind only Michael Crabtree. He was a 2nd team All-Big 12 member as a senior.

Before his time at Texas Tech, Leong was doing much of the same. He even caught most of his touchdowns from the same guy in both high school and at Texas Tech. He and Taylor Potts were stars at Abilene High School together, where Leong racked up 91 receptions for 1,850 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior and senior playing alongside Potts. They both entered the Big Country Sports Hall of Fame together in April.

Leong was also a state champion track athlete, clearing 7'1" to win the high jump at the 2006 5A state track meet.

Leong replaces Andy Correll as Levelland's football coach after a 2-9 season. The Lobos were 4-7 in 2019 and 8-3 in 2018. Leong will have a tough district slate in 2021, facing the Estacado Matadors, Perryton Rangers, Borger Bulldogs and the Seminole Indians.

Leong was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Highlands Owls in San Antonio, Texas. Before getting into coaching, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent before spending time in the CFL.
