The 10th Annual Lubbock Parks and Recreation's Pumpkin Trail is right around the corner and your help is needed. From October 18-21st at the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, trails will be lined with hundreds of jack-o-lanterns.

Last year more than 1,700 pumpkins were carved and donated for the Pumpkin Trail. This year the goal for the Parks and Recreation Department is to have 2,000 pumpkins on the trail. Here are some need to know details from the City about how to participate this year.

Groups bringing 10 or more pumpkins will have a sign posted on the trail with their name or logo on it. Pumpkin carvings must be family-friendly and appropriate for even the youngest child. We are asking all participants to carve their pumpkins no earlier than Monday, October 15, so that they stay fresh throughout the four-day event. Whether you plan to carve one pumpkin or a dozen, call Hodges Community Center at (806) 767-3706, and let us know how many pumpkins you are bringing as we build towards our goal. In addition to pumpkins, we are also signing up volunteer groups to help each night as candle lighters, trail guides and counters.

If you carve a pumpkin (or more than one), be sure to deliver it to the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum on Wednesday, October 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Arboretum is located at 4111 University.
