Keeping our children safe from predators is a collective effort, and one Lubbock mom has taken to social media to warn others of a potential threat to residents.

On Monday, July 15th, Jessica Ruiz DeLeon posted on a local Facebook group warning others of a suspicious male who approached her 13-year-old daughter and her niece while they were outside of a home near Marsha Sharp at Avenue Q.

DeLeon said that the male approached the girls in a silver Mercedes Benz and asked if their parents were home. After he was approached by DeLeon's cousin, the man "made up a story of being with code enforcement."

The post goes on to explain that the city was called to verify whether employees from code enforcement were in the area on that day and learned that "they would never do that on a Sunday."

The incident was reported to the Lubbock Police Department according to DeLeon's post, but we're encouraging readers to be vigilant in watching what goes on around them and to report any suspicious persons or activities to police.
