Parents: This Is Something To Remember When You’re Trick Or Treating In Texas

Halloween is coming up and if you are worried about your child's safety as far as trick-or-treating here is something you may want to look into.

You can go online and look at your neighborhood or other neighborhoods you are going to for candy with the online sex offender website.

But what does it mean to be on that website? In Texas, according to the DPS website, "any person with a "reportable conviction or adjudication," (2) required to register as a condition of parole or release to mandatory supervision, (3) required to register as a condition of community supervision, or (4) is an “extrajurisdictional registrant” must register as a sex offender."

According to City Data's research, there were 615 registered sex offenders living in Lubbock as of October 26, 2022. The ratio of all residents to sex offenders in Lubbock is 411 to 1. This is around the state average.

So when you go on the website there will be different levels of their offense due to what they have done. There will be low, moderate, and high.

Thankfully in Texas, sex offenders are watched very closely. When you go on the website you'll be able to see their name, picture, and offense.

Also here in this great state, they have a "No Candy Law" to protect children as well. Making it illegal for sex offenders to hand out candy or go to any Halloween activities between the hours of 6 a.m. and midnight on October 31st.
