New Ice Cream Shop Coming to Lubbock Gives Jobs to Those With Developmental Disabilities

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Howdy Homemade Ice Cream!

You might recognize these ice cream containers from H-E-B, but did you know they stand for an important message and are opening a store in Lubbock?

Tom Landis founded Howdy Homemade Ice Cream to create and help make jobs for people with intellectual and developmental abilities. This company was started in 2015 with no plan other than helping people. Now, seven years later, Howdy has 13 stores and employs individuals with developmental disabilities who otherwise may struggle to find work.

Howdy announced on Facebook that their newest location is coming to Lubbock at West End Shopping Center and will have its grand opening in late spring.

How awesome is this? Their grand opening is set for June 4th, 2022 and they'll be giving away 5,000 pints of ice cream to celebrate. Sweet -- literally!

According to Howdy, its mission is to have a "relentless pursuit to create jobs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities using the power of smiles and amazing ice cream."

If you're excited to try out their ice cream before they open, you can find it at H-E-B on 114th and Quaker. I haven't tried it yet, but I definitely want to now after hearing all these great things and learning it's for such a great cause.
