Food King had two Lubbock grand openings and a re-grand opening for the original Lubbock Slide Road store all on one day on Wednesday, May 17.

With a walk through the store, it's easy to see what all the excitement is about. It's big variety, bright, fun, fresh, presentation, and its remarkably low prices make it a stand-out place to shop.

Food King is a re-branding and a new concept in grocery stores that originated as Food King in El Paso, Texas a few short years ago. It's also the end of an era for Lowe's Markets in Lubbock, as the last two Lowe's Markets in Lubbock have now been re-branded.

This popular Cost Plus concept launched here in Lubbock in July of 2015 on 82nd and Slide Road. It has reportedly done very well and inspired the recent grand opening of the two additional locations. The two former Lowe's locations at 5725 19th St. and 2706 26th St. were transformed into Food Kings, officially opening their doors on the same day.

"The grand opening's been going great from the start," said Food King and Lowe's District Manager Kevin Satterwhite, who was in Lubbock to help open the new stores. Satterwhite opened the very first Food King in El Paso in 2013 and many more since. "This was our first time to open in this time of the month, we were very surprised that at this time of the month the volume has been so good," Satterwhite said.

He affirmed the question 'Is Lubbock embracing Food King?' " Yes...we've been very fortunate," he said.

The Cost Plus concept is simple, the price on the shelf is at cost and then 10 percent is added at the register. It adds up very well for most people based on Food King's Yelp reviews.
