The Lubbock Police Department says that a man who led officers on a chase tried to run one of them off the road.

KAMC News reports that it all began when a suspect, now identified as 57-year-old Mark Birdsong, fled a convenience store near the Marsha Sharp Freeway. It's said Birdsong fled in a pickup truck with one wheel on a rim. Birdsong was fleeing at an accelerated speed, and officers eventually began their pursuit with him.

In the police report, it's said that Birdsong tried to run one of the officers off of US Highway 84 at one point. He was eventually stopped after multiple attempts by LPD and taken into custody.

After stopping Birdsong's vehicle, officers found a crystal-like substance in the truck. This was later identified as methamphetamine.

Birdsong was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, Evading Arrest and other charges relating to the incident. He remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $45,000.
