A Lubbock man was sentenced to 35 years in state prison for leading officers on a chase back in 2019.

KAMC News reports that 34-year-old Kain Rodriguez was charged with evading arrest after leading the Texas Department of Public Safety on a chase in April 2019. The exact details of this chase were not made immediately clear in news reports.

In court, Rodriguez's defense team argued that going to jail "saved his life" and that he "found peace in the Lord." They thought that serving a 25-year sentence was just, saying that could be redeemed and should have a chance to have a life.

The prosecution, however, called Rodriguez a "deceptive person" and said he posed, and still poses, a danger to the public. He was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years.

Rodriguez will be eligible for parole after he serves close to 9 years of his sentence.
