A Lubbock man was arrested and accused of vandalizing a building's wall.

KAMC News reports that 32-year-old Jose Vasquez (pictured above) was captured on surveillance footage vandalizing the Region 17 Education Service Center building with graffiti.

There have been many efforts to remove the graffiti off the building walls, but it might have to stay as is due to the fragile nature of the building wall itself, with the damages totaling out to $7,400.

There have been reports within the last few weeks of graffiti appearing around Lubbock. The City does offer a service to anyone whose personal property has been vandalized by graffiti. Victims are encouraged to call 311 to get access to information and be directed to someone who can assist in the removal.

With all this talk of graffiti and vandalization, where's the fine line between crime and artwork? The City of Lubbock does partner with local artists to promote the arts, and some styles could be seen as graffiti in those instances. If they're on city property and you're unsure, accessing the City of Lubbock's public art maps might be the right first step to figuring out if it's art or a crime.

According to jail records, as of Wednesday, June 29th, Vasquez is still being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond.
