A man who was shot in the face at a Lubbock motel says he was the victim of a robbery gone wrong.

The shooting occurred Saturday night (Nov. 12) at the Sunset Square Motel on 38th Street. While the victim has yet to be identified, he told Lubbock police about the moments leading up to him being shot in the cheek.

According to Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt, the victim told police that two men he didn't know knocked on his door. Upon opening the door, one of the suspects told him to hand over his phone. One of the men was armed with a gun, and when the victim attempted to push himself away he was shot through the right cheek.

Both suspects fled and have yet to be apprehended. The victim is being treated at UMC.
