Lubbock Man Shoots Wife, Then Commits Suicide
The Lubbock Police Department is still unraveling details of an attempted homicide while a mother of six fights for her life at a local hospital.
It was first reported on Tuesday, October 27th, 2020 that shots had been fired the night before in the 3300 block of Avenue Q at around 9 p.m. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found both a man and a woman lying wounded outside.
Investigators now say that the man, who has not been officially identified, was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man’s wife was lying wounded in the street and was later identified as 29-year-old Dorothy Holland.
Police report that the man tried to kill Holland by shooting her multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Holland was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries. A GoFundMe page set up for Holland states that she was placed into a medically-induced coma and has undergone multiple surgeries since the shooting.
Holland is said to be in stable condition, although it’s predicted that she has a long road to recovery. An update posted the morning of Friday, Oct. 30th, states that Holland is expected to receive surgery to repair the carotid artery in her neck, along with reconstructive surgery on a hand and eye.
The GoFundMe page is currently trying to raise $100,000 to cover the cost of living and medical expenses for her family with six children. As of Friday morning, it had raised $6,225.
