Lubbock Gas Prices: Maybe I Should Just Buy a Bike…
It's not uncommon for people to complain about gas prices, but this is getting ridiculous.
Never before has Lubbock seen prices this high. It's had its peaks and valleys every now and then, but we've reached new heights. Earlier today, March 7th, we saw a local E-Z Mart charging over $4 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline.
Gasbuddy's site was even down because of the amount of people seeing what gas prices were in their area:
Now, I know a lot of people like to just blame whoever's president for gas prices (praise Trump for low prices and bash Biden for high prices and whatnot) and I don't know or care enough about the whole process to have a strong opinion on that kind of thing. I do, however, know that Russia's little murder-filled joyride into Ukraine has something to do with it. Of course, inflation can be blamed somewhat, but it makes sense to me that this is because of bipartisan sanctions on Russia.
Apparently, the US and 30 other countries around the world are releasing 60 million barrels of oil from reserves to help with gas prices, but how much this will actually help is kind of up in the air.
And since I brought up inflation, isn't Lubbock's whole gimmick the fact that it's a very affordable place to live? Lately with the prices of housing, gas and food exploding, that doesn't really seem like the case anymore.
So if Lubbock doesn't have an affordable cost of living, doesn't have any big musical acts coming our way, doesn't have any attractions like an aquarium or zoo, what's the point in coming here? Going to Texas Tech? Neat.
Lubbock-bashing aside, I've been entertaining the idea of just getting a bike lately. I live about a mile from where I work and I could use the extra bit of exercise. It might even be kind of fun just biking around town. It sure as hell would save me a lot of money on gas.
