Casual observation: the person in the photo above has $48 dollars that they are using to pay for gas. Depending on what part of the country he's in, he will probably only be able to afford enough gas to get to the next station.

It was a few short weeks ago here in Lubbock when we saw gas prices virtually skyrocket, with increases of over one dollar per gallon in less than a weeks time. As much as we thought paying $2.69 was robbery at the beginning of the year, now we're practically nostalgic for those good ole' days we'll hopefully live to tell our grandchildren about it.

Even though Lubbock's prices are nowhere near as expensive as in other cities (*cough* $6.89 in Los Angeles), seeing a "4" as first digit on local gas station price signs was quite a shock. However, slow, subtle relief seems to be arriving daily.

While diesel is still incredibly, outrageously high, at most stations, regular unleaded gas prices have come down approximately 35 cents from their high two weeks ago. The Murphy Express (as of April 5th, 2022) at 82nd and Slide had gas at $3.47. Some gas stations, such as Costco's, will be lower, but this is a step in the right direction. And if you're lucky enough to be in a rewards program (like moi), you can save even more, just like I did at United Express last night.

Impressive, eh?

Regardless of this subtle rollback, these prices are considerably higher than we saw just 18 months ago on the South Plains -- as much as three times higher in places.

This was Quaker and 114th, in September of 2020. During the height of the pandemic.

I call bulls#!t.

Say what you want: "IT'S THE RUSSIANS! IT'S THE UKRANIANS! IT'S BIDEN! IT'S TRUMP! IT'S THE SUPPLY CHAIN! IT'S THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE! IT'S THE PANDEMIC!"

It's still bulls#!t. And, don't give me that "summer increase" garbage either. We're being played, and someone is to blame. Whoever it is needs to be held accountable, or impeached.

I say... DRILL, BABY, DRILL!
