Correction: Herrera and Cortez are in the Lubbock County Jail. Deputies are seeking information on their whereabouts September 5-13, 2015. [Dec. 15, 7:05 p.m.]
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on two persons of interest in the homicide case of Antonio Garcia III, who was found deceased south of FM 1585 on County Road 2700 in southeast Lubbock County back in September.
Lubbock police arrested Johnathan Herrera, 28, and Melissa Cortez, 26, on September 13. They are being held on a bevy of charges including attempted capital murder and remain in the Lubbock County Jail as of December 15. Sheriff Bryan Taylor said the charges stem from the arrest by Lubbock police and is not related to their investigation.
Deputies want to know what Herrera and Cortez were doing September 5-13, 2015, as they believe they were involved in Garcia's murder and the arson of his car.
Garcia was found with multiple gunshot wounds and his 2012 Nissan Altima was found shortly thereafter engulfed in flames. Deputies believe the two incidents are connected.
