LP&L Experiences Power Outage Tuesday Evening, Affecting Thousands
Over 5,000 Lubbock Power & Light customers in south and central Lubbock were without power Tuesday (May 29) for about four hours.
The outage was traced to a problem at the Chalker substation, located at 73rd Street and Utica Avenue. KAMC News reports the outage was first recognized at 5:30 p.m. by LP&L.
The Lubbock Police Department stationed officers at many major intersections to direct traffic due to traffic signals losing power, particularly along 50th and 82nd Streets.
Power was mostly restored by 8 p.m., but then lost again for another hour. LP&L says more than 5,000 customers and 20 intersections were affected by the outage.
