Tonight on "Late Night with David Letterman" you can witness a tradition continuing. Since the mid-1980s Letter has had 60s singer Darlene Love on to sing "Christmas(Baby Please Come Home)", and it won't be different this year. Also there's a giant meatball at the top of a Christmas tree. Every year, a football is always thrown by actor/comedian Jay Thomas at the meatball attempting to knock it down. Guests on the pre-Christmas show have to duck to avoid injury.Tonight's guest is David Hyde Pierce promoting his new off-Broadway show called "Close Up space". It may be a different sort of interview if he gets in the way of the football or the meatball. Here's what it's looked like in years past.
