***UPDATE at 11:40am from LP&L***

"Crews continue to work through storm related damage late morning.  From the original customer outage count of approximately 15,000 customers, crews have been able to restore power to all but 854 customers.  Crews will continue to work through these individual outages and expect to restore power to all remaining affected customers in the coming hours.  We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as crews work as quickly and safely as possible to repair all equipment damaged during last night’s storm."

Nearly 9,000 residents in Lubbock with Lubbock Power and Light are still in the dark as of 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The power outage is a result of storms that slammed the city of Lubbock overnight and in the early morning hours.

The good news is that crews have been working overnight and continue to work Friday to restore power to all residents. In fact, LP&L expects most customers to have their power restored by mid-morning. Full power may not be restored until later Friday depending on the damage according to a press release.

Storm damage was seen equally across the city overnight causing crews to work continuously to repair damaged equipment.  With a storm of this magnitude, there will be some customers required to contact an electrician to fix damage to meter boxes on their homes or businesses before LP&L can safely restore power to their structure.  LP&L will work closely with those customers throughout the day in order to safely restore power.
