Here’s Your Sign To Drop Everything And Move To Downtown Lubbock
I spent the last 3 years renting a home in a quiet Lubbock neighborhood. It wasn't the worst place to live and I actually enjoyed it, but the bills were extremely high. I started getting frustrated that I was spending so much on a house that didn't even belong to me and wondered if it might be time to downsize and save some cash. I noticed several listings for apartments in downtown Lubbock that looked kind of interesting, but I wasn't sure if I would enjoy living there. I grew up here, and my entire life, I'd heard horror stories of crime and rampant homelessness in the downtown area. I nearly threw the idea out altogether, and I'm so glad I didn't.
I'd like to set the record straight.
Living in downtown Lubbock is absolutely amazing.
It's not at all how I imagined it as a child and I'm honestly annoyed that I didn't move there sooner. Not only are several old buildings being renovated and turned into affordable apartments, but the streets are well kept, the street lights are nice and bright, there are dozens of restaurants and places to grab a beer with your pals, and the view from my new apartment is breathtaking. It's made me feel like I live in a completely different world and has changed my entire outlook on our dusty town.
Instead of going home and watering my backyard, praying the grass would finally grow, or dealing with door-to-door salesmen knocking at all hours, I get to look across the city and enjoy just how beautiful it is. It's changed my perspective. I actually look forward to walking over to Georgio's to get a calzone or taking a stroll to Two Docs for a beer. I feel like I live in a completely different city.
I didn't need to move away to find my happy place. It was here all along. I was just too caught up in stupid rumors to see just how fabulous living downtown could be. Taking the plunge and moving there was the best decision I could have made for myself.
If you're bored and fed up with the same old neighborhood monotony, I highly recommend giving downtown Lubbock a chance. It's not at all what you think. It's so much more.
