In the early morning hours of Friday, September 3rd, Lubbock Police responded to a shots fired call and found a victim with 3 gunshot wounds.

The call came in just after 2 a.m. in the 2500 block of 1st Street.

KAMC News reports that a man showed up to a residence in violation of a criminal trespass order. He allegedly got into a physical altercation with the residents before being shoved off the front porch and told to leave. One of the residents fired a warning shot into the air.

The man is said to have grabbed his waistband, claiming he also was carrying a firearm, and continued the altercation. At this point, the resident who fired a warning shot earlier fired 3 times, striking the man.

Police arrived at the scene to find the man on the ground in front of the residence calling for help. He was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

The man who opened fire was released on the scene due to his actions being labeled as self-defense. That man told police that immediately after firing his gun, he put it down and called police.

Official charges have yet to be filed, so the identities of those involved have yet to be made public.
