On Thursday, May 19th, Lubbock County will hold a public meeting to gather public input on updating their Hazard Mitigation Plan.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Lubbock County Sheriff's Academy, located at Main Street and Avenue G in Lubbock.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan is intended to minimize the long-term risk to human life and property via hazards such as tornados, hail, lightning, extreme heat, thunderstorm wind and expansive soils. These hazards are mitigated "by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions."
During the meeting, a project overview will be provided by H2O Partners, Inc. They will be soliciting information from citizens so they can better understand potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact. Everyone in the public is invited to attend this meeting.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan includes the following cities:
- Buffalo Springs
- Idalou
- Lubbock
- New Deal
- Ransom Canyon
- Shallowater
- Slaton
- Wolfforth
If you're unable to attend in person but still wish to be involved, there is a Microsoft Teams option available by clicking the link here. A public participation survey is also available at the link here.
Questions regarding the Hazard Mitigation Plan should be addressed to Senior Mitigation Specialist Rhonda Murphy at rmurphy@h2opartnersusa.com.
