Former political activist and Lubbock radio talkshow host, Armando Gonzales, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

The 66 year-old Gonzales worked off-and-on in the radio industry since he was 17, and ran unsuccessfully for the Lubbock City Council in 2008. During his political career, Gonzales worked on one of Congressman Charlie Stenholm’s numerous re-election campaigns.

Gonzales hosted an afternoon talkshow on 580 KRFE-AM from 2006-2008 and for about one year was a co-host with Ysidro Gutierrez on a Sunday afternoon talkshow on KFYO in 2013.

In 2012, Gonzales filed ethics complaints against the Lubbock County Elections Office concerning the lack of early voting locations in Idalou, and against Precinct 3 Lubbock County Commissioner Bubba Sedeno for allegations of unfair campaigning in the 2012 Democratic Primary. Both complaints were dismissed.

 

A prayer service, honoring the life of Armando Gonzales will be held Friday, July 5 at 7pm at Guajardo Funeral Chapels at 407 North University Avenue. Then, the funeral for Armando Gonzales will be held Saturday, July 6 at 1pm, also at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
