Tuesday evening as the sun set across the South Plains the thunderstorms packed an extra punch.

A Dust Storm Warning was issues for five different counties, including Hale and Lubbock. With the wall of dust making its way across the region during nightfall, it will severely impact driving along streets and highways, including Texas Highway 114 and Interstate 27 between Lubbock and Plainview.

The wall of dust is expected to hit Lubbock County from the west, between 8:40pm to 9pm.

North central Terry County in northwestern Texas...

Southwestern Hale County in northwestern Texas...
Southeastern Lamb County in northwestern Texas...

* Until 900 PM CDT.

* At 820 PM CDT, a locallized dust storm was 4 miles south of
Levelland, moving northeast at 55 mph. This dust storm extended
south to near Locketville and north to near Whiteface.

HAZARD...Less than a quarter mile visibility with damaging wind in
excess of 60 mph.

SOURCE...Trained weather spotters.

IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel.

Locations impacted include...
Lubbock, Levelland, Wolfforth, Shallowater, Sundown, Anton, Texas
Tech University, Reese Center, Locketville, Smyer and Opdyke West.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility
reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If
caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your
foot off the brake.

Motorists should not drive into a dust storm. PULL ASIDE STAY ALIVE!
