This fun free to attend dog event is something you don't want to miss this weekend in Lubbock.

Dock diving is the ultimate water sport for dogs and South Plains residents have the chance to see if their dogs can go the distance this weekend! The Heart of the Plains Kennel Club is partnering up with North American Dock Diving for their Second Annual Sniff and Splash Trial.

Attendees will also get to enjoy some of Lubbock's favorite food trucks including
Ricchezza's Philly Cheesesteaks, The Spud Truck, Baca Sno, and Nirvana Burger.

Boutique dog vendors will be present throughout the event as well.

For a distance jump, the objective is for the dog to run down the dock and jump in as far as they can in the water. Some breeds can clear as far as 30 feet!

For a retrieve, the dog runs down the dock and jumps up into the air and catches a buoy, landing in the water.

Finally, the hydro dash is the supreme swimming relay. Dogs must leap into the pool, swim to the end of the dock, retrieve the buoy, and return it to their owner.

For just $10, you and your pup can try your hand at this exhilarating exhibition. For $30, you can contend for a title.

Vice President and Trial Chair Jolynn Payne notes that this is a great way for owners to bond with their dogs, stay active, enjoy some time in the sun this weekend, and even get a behind-the-scenes look at a television station.

"Heart of the Plains Kennel Club is the only club to bring dock diving to West Texas-from Midland to Amarillo! Don't miss out on this opportunity. It is absolutely addicting."

Dogs of all breeds are welcome, but first-time swimmers and heavy-headed breeds are advised to wear a life jacket if they intend to compete. Otherwise, all that is required is your pup's favorite toy that has the ability to float.

Attendees are asked to keep their dogs leashed while they are not competing. Human spectators are welcome, but if dogs are not competing, they ask that you keep them home to limit distractions for competing pets.

It will be hosted at the old KCBD building, 5600 Avenue A, from Friday, July 12th through Sunday, July 14th from 8 AM to 4 PM daily.  Registration begins at 8 a.m. Owners can sign their dogs up to run a 40-foot stretch and then leap into a 50-foot mobile pool--five feet longer.
