The Lubbock City approved a deal this week where the City will begin selling water to the City of Wolfforth. The agreement is for 25 years and will help Wolfforth keep up with growth and demand of resources.

The contract begins on June 1, 2023 and the billing rate according to KAMC is “at an amount equal to 1.5 times the current wholesale rate, as such may be changed from time to time.” That means that the maximum revenue Lubbock can make in year one is $1.3 million dollars.

There are also caps built in on how much water can be used according to KAMC.

The term of the contract is for 25 years, starting on June 1, 2023, according to the meeting agenda.

As for the amount of water, volumes are capped and in two steps. For the first three years, volumes would be capped at a maximum of 500,000 gallons per day. According to public records, that limit would go up to a maximum of 750,000 gallons per day “if certain Wolfforth infrastructure is completed” by June 1, 2026.

This move also comes as Lubbock is continuing to look at its own water supply and look at plans for a future Lake 7.
