National Child Passenger Safety Week has kicked off for the this year for the month of September. The week is part of a campaign being held by the Texas Department of Transport (TxDot) to help parents install their car seats and gather more information when it comes to car seat safety for their children.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that three out of four child safety seats are not installed or used correctly by parents. KAMC news reported that a Texas study has also revealed that more than a quarter of nine out of 10 babies and toddlers were not using safety seats correctly. The Texas Department of Public Safety also offers virtual car seat checks through which part of the #EndTheStreakTX social media and word of mouth campaign.

This Saturday, September 24, TxDot will be having an event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Science Spectrum & Omni Theater with certified car technicians on-site. The technicians will be present to help teach parents, guardians, and caregivers decide if their children are in the the right safety seat according to their weight and height. Parental figures are also advised to bring their current care safety seats so technicians can check to see if they are installed correctly and if not can be informed on how to properly install them.
