Are You Ready For Adult Happy Meals? What Should Be in Them?
McDonald's in San Angelo is big news. Earlier in the year, when it was announced that McDonald's was opening a new location in San Angelo it was a big headline. As anyone can tell you, the drive thru lines at McDonald's here are often longer than the line at Chic-Fil-A. There aren't many places where that is true.
So, it is with great excitement that McDonald's has announced that they are teaming up with a streetwear brand to create Happy Meals for Adults. I don't know about you, but any meal I don't have to cook or clean up after cooking is a "Happy Meal". The idea that any adult would need the stuff usually found in the kids' version of a Happy Meal seems a little off to me.
Yet, I'm ready to hear McDonald's out. Here's what they have in mind. Beginning on October 3rd, customers can order a "Cactus Plant Flea Market" Box, a BIg Mac or 10-piece chicken McNuggets with fries and drink. The adult "Happy Meal" comes with toys, including the Hamburglar, Grimace, and Birdie. Plus, they're introducing a new one "Cactus Buddy".
What is Cactus Plant Flea Market?
It is a streetwear brand popularized by Kanye West and Pharrell. This fashionable brand includes hoodies which can sell for as much as a thousand dollars on the online marketplace StockX.
McDonald's isn't saying how much these "Happy Meals" for adults will cost. Let's hope they're not in the ballpark of the hoodies.
Sure, these retro style "Happy Meal" boxes will strike up nostalgia for some adults. However, I'm thinking if McDonald's really wants to offer a meal that will make adults "happy" there are some other things they should consider.
For one, how about ear buds, or a Cactus Plant Branded t-shirt. Maybe they could include one of those lottery style scratch off with food and drink prizes. Better yet, give away a free "golden" ticket to skip to the front of the drive thru line.
On second thought, that probably would cause too much anger from everyone else in line and with all the recent news stories of people getting violent at drive thru windows, that might not be a good idea.
I'm just saying, McDonald's, I like the adult "Happy Meal" idea. I just think it needs a little more thought. I think a lot of us would just be "happy" if the ice cream machines always worked, the fries were always hot and the drive thru would get our order perfect every time.
And, because we don't say it often enough, thank you for all the times when all those things are true and for all the times a trip to your restaurant has made us "happy".
