A New Halloween Tradition is Gaining Steam…the Halloween Tree

There are so many haunted places and traditions here in West Texas.  We have haunted houses, haunted bridges and even a haunted fort. For many people here, Halloween is their favorite season of the year.

I know you've noticed.  Just like Christmas season seems to get earlier each year, Halloween season and the associated pumpkin spice trend also seems to get earlier and earlier.  Halloween accessories are already showing up in West Texas stores right alongside Back to School themed products. There are jack-o-lantern decorations and other scary things popping up.

Many  of us are already stocking up on Halloween candy, fully intending to save it for Halloween.  In the end, it often takes many trips of the store to replenish  Halloween candy supplies as everyone starts enjoying it early.

This year, Halloween season is full of newness.  First Disney's new movie "Hocus Pocus 2" is out starting September 30th.  While not completely new, there is another Halloween season tradition this year that is expected to gain widespread adoption by a record number of households. It is the Halloween Tree.

Just like Christmas trees, Halloween trees are starting to gain popularity.  Disney theme parks and attractions seem to have popularized the tradition. It only takes one kid on the block to decorate a Halloween tree and pretty soon everyone wants one.

There are so many ways to decorate a tree for Halloween. Speaking of Disney, they have a number of frightful ornaments to chose from.  In fact, Halloween trees are almost as diverse as Christmas trees anymore.  You can choose from so many different styles and themes.  Many go whimsical. Others go scary.  Many others seek out themes revolving around their favorite Halloween movies.

With the Covid outbreak and all the economic pressures of the last few years, we could all benefit from some fun Halloween decorating this year, and Halloween trees are a fresh new take on the scary season. All it takes are a few Halloween ornaments, some jack-o-lanterns and a ton of imagination to transform your home into your very own "nightmare before Christmas".

I plan to give it a try. We all need a little fun in our lives. Plus, the kids will love it. I recommend getting a few ornaments along, but waiting until at least September before putting up the Halloween tree. I hope someone comes out with a Halloween tree song by then.
