Xcel Energy has announced a plan with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, for $65 million in power grid upgrades in Bailey and Lamb Counties.

The plan, named the Bailey-New Amherst-Lamb project, calls for new transmission lines between the Bailey County Substation near Muleshoe, and the Lamb County Substation near Littlefield, plus transmission line repairs. The plan also includes expanding the Lamb County Substation, adding a new substation called New Amherst, and upgrading the Sudan Rural Substation and the Bailey County Pump Station.

The Bailey-New Amherst-Lamb project is part of a larger project, known as "Power for the Plains", which is a goal to enhance all of Xcel Energy's power grids in Texas and New Mexico.

These improvements, if approved, would be completed in March 2022.
