World’s Largest Rattlesnake Roundup Returns to West Texas in March
This is a great big event in its 69th year that draws more than 30,000 folks annually to Sweetwater, Texas. Who can resist a posse of rattlesnakes?
Sweetwater is just a couple hours down the road, and the rattlesnake roundup is presented by the Jaycees!
This year, the event kicks off on Thursday, March 9th with the Rattlesnake Parade. Throughout the weekend, the event includes: a carnival; a Miss Snake Charmer Pageant; a gun show; a dance; guided hunts; a cook-off; a snake eating contest; and a beard contest. The longest snake and most pounds of snakes wrap up the weekend Sunday afternoon March 12th!
I have to say this is not for the faint of heart and may give the squeamish nightmares. It could also change your perspective the next time you run across a rattler. After all, if you have some good snake-charming skills or possibly a good recipe idea, I'd say you still have to think quick and see that rattler before it sees you.
The World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup happens at the Nolan County Coliseum, located at 1699 Cypress, Sweetwater, Texas 79556,
