Whataburger is known for the A-frame, orange and white-topped building we all know and love. So when I drove by the one in Lubbock located at 50th and Utica, I got concerned.

Workers were painting over the orange and white roof. While it looks like it's going to be gold, we did some digging to find out what the heck is really going on.

As you can see in the picture above, the building is currently closed, so you can't currently go inside to enjoy a yummy honey butter chicken biscuit for breakfast with an iced cold Dr Pepper to start off your Texas-sized morning.

After reaching out to Whataburger, we did get some answers -- both about the look of the building, and when it would reopen. The original orange and white colors are coming back. The gold will only stay around insofar as serving a gold standard of excellence in food.

Here's what the chain's corporate communications team sent us:

The restaurant is being remodeled. Our Lubbock fans will be able to enjoy our famous burgers and extraordinary customer service on 50th Street again soon!

While the exterior is being painted, rest assured the final color won’t be gold. You can expect a fresh new look for this restaurant, but not a change in our corporate colors!

A fresh new look, you say? Thankfully, not long after I noticed the new paint job underway, it was finished. Here's what it looks like as of today (October 6th):

Whataburger also told us that the expected reopening date for the 50th and Utica restaurant is October 12th, adding that the Whataburger at 6414 82nd Street would also be getting a fresh coat of paint sometime later this month.

So don't fret if you live near the Whataburger at 50th and Utica. You just have to drive a little further to the Quaker and Loop location until it's re-opened.

If you have any recommendations for new places to try or restaurants/food trucks we have not covered please reach out to me at Kelsee.pitman@townsquaremedia.com, we would love to feature as much about Lubbock and the South Plains as we can. I look forward to talking with you.

7 Weird Texas Laws That Actually Exist

There are plenty of lists of 'crazy Texas laws' that you can find online. Unfortunately, a lot of those 'laws' don't actually exist, or they were appealed a long time ago. However, there are plenty of laws that do actually exist and seem pretty silly. Some of them are very self-explanatory, while others are oddly specific.
