United Supermarkets Helps Fight Against Porch Pirates in Lubbock

This time of year, the number of packages being delivered to homes in Lubbock dramatically increases. Unfortunately, that also means a rise in stolen packages, which is called "porch piracy."

Known as "Porch Pirates," these criminals will sometimes follow delivery trucks and steal packages dropped off at someone's home.

United Supermarkets on Wednesday announced a plan to help fight against the porch pirates. In a press release, United announced that 15 Lubbock-area stores will be able to accept FedEx deliveries.

This means you can now ship FedEx packages to a store to pick up rather than have the package delivered to your house where someone could steal it.

The stores participating in the program will hold packages at the Guest Services Counter. According to the United press release, here's what you need to do if you have a package delivered to United Supermarkets:

To retrieve a package, guests simply present their name and proper identification at Guest Services. The package is then scanned with an official FedEx handheld scanner, to update tracking information, and the guest signs to confirm receipt. Packages remaining at the close of business will be scanned to remain in “inventory” for pick up at a later time.
