UMC Agrees to $119,175 Settlement Out-of-Court to Finish Overtime Pay Dispute
University Medical Center settled an overtime pay dispute with emergency room employees out-of court.
On Friday (June 29), the U.S. Department of Labor states that UMC agreed to pay $119,175 in back-wages to 197 emergency room employees. The DOL says UMC automatically deducted 30 minutes for lunch from the staff’s timesheets regardless if a lunch break was taken or not.
UMC responded by saying that automatic deductions has been a standard practice for many hospitals, but has since stopped automatic deductions.
UMC says they have worked cooperatively with the Department of Labor to review and resolve the matter.
