Two-Vehicle Crash in Central Lubbock Leaves One Dead, Another in Jail

A Sunday morning wreck in Central Lubbock left a woman dead and another charged with intoxication manslaughter.
On March 13th, emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle accident just after 3:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of 34th Street.
An investigation revealed 43-year-old Elisa Audrey Bengoa was driving west along 34th Street when they struck 30-year-old Samantha Martinez’s vehicle from behind. That slammed their vehicle into a building in the area.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bengoa was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Bengoa has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and is being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
