Toby Keith’s New Song ‘Don’t Let the Old Man Featured in’ New Clint Eastwood Film, ‘The Mule’ [Watch]
Toby Keith’s new song, “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” tells the story of a man doing his best to not let the years catch up to him. While this common tale could ring true for so many, it actually came from a real conversation that the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer had with legendary actor-director Clint Eastwood.
According to a press release, Keith actually spent some time with Eastwood this past May at Eastwood’s golf tournament in California. While the two men shared a golf cart, their conversation turned to what Eastwood was working on next.
"Funny you should ask,” Eastwood told Keith. “I am leaving tomorrow to shoot a movie for three months called The Mule."
Keith seemed surprised by the comment, as Eastwood is 88 years old. So Keith asked him how he keeps up such a schedule at his age, to which Eastwood simply replied “I don’t let the old man in.”
Keith would go on to write a song inspired by the conversation, and it will be included in The Mule. Keith has also released a music video for the song featuring various scenes from the movie, which tells the story of an older man who finds himself working as a drug courier. The movie is set for release on Friday (Dec. 14.)
The release of the song and the video comes the same week that Keith was honored for his career achievements and philanthropic contributions at the 34th annual Symphony Ball, which is the Nashville Symphony's yearly fundraiser. That event took place this past Saturday (Dec. 8) at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.
