A series of what appear to be unrelated shootings in Lubbock left three dead over the weekend.

Lubbock police are currently looking a suspect in the shooting death of a teenager. Officers responded to reports of shots being fired Saturday night at around 8:50 p.m. in the 3300 block of Joliet Avenue.

Sixteen-year-old Mackinley Malone was found wounded and taken to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Now, the LPD’s Persons Crimes Unit is investigating. They believe a potential suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

Another deadly shooting on Saturday has one man claiming self-defense. The incident occurred just before 4:20 a.m. on Saturday inside an apartment in the 2900 block of Vicksburg Avenue.

According to a police report, one officer entered the apartment to find one man with his hands above his head, a woman who was hysterical, and another man lying face down without a pulse.

A semi-automatic hand gun was reportedly lying on a bed in the room. The woman, a witness to the shooting, is the alleged girlfriend of the shooter and ex-girlfriend of the victim.

The shooter initially claimed to have shot the ex-boyfriend in self-defense after he broke into the apartment. He was handcuffed and refused to answer questions before speaking to a lawyer.

Police are also investigating a shooting in East Lubbock that left one man dead and another injured.

Just before 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, an off-duty officer at Covenant Medical Center reported that two male gunshot victims had been admitted to the Emergency Room.

One of the men suffered non-life threatening injuries, while the other, 43-year-old Raymond Lockett, would later die at the hospital.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot outside of Club Snow located at East 4th Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard.
