Keifer Thompson, one half of the husband-and-wife duo Thompson Square, lost his mother on Wednesday morning (Feb. 20). Carrol Thompson died unexpectedly in her hometown of Miami, Okla.

Further details about the cause of Carrol Thompson's death have not been revealed; The Boot will update this story with more information as it's made available. In addition to Keifer and wife and bandmate Shawna Thompson, Carrol Thompson is also survived by her grandson, Rigney Cooper Thompson, who was born in January of 2016.

All Access reports that Thompson Square will be canceling scheduled appearances and shows through this weekend. Those performances include a Grand Ole Opry set slotted for Saturday (Feb. 23).

According to the Miami News-Record, Keifer Thompson grew up in Miami, where he was raised by his mother and father, Darrion Thompson. Thompson graduated from Miami High School in 1991, and also spent time working at a local grocery store. In a 2012 interview with the newspaper, he related that coming home to visit his parents always evoked warm feelings.

"A lot of it has changed, but a lot has stayed the same," the country star explained at the time. "Seeing the high school and going back out and walking the college campus today was cool. I hadn't thought about it, I hadn't had those feelings for years. It's always good to go home and go to the house that I was born and raised in, and seeing Mom and Dad."
